Pebble Beach, located in the center of the Monterey Peninsula between Pacific Grove and Carmel, is acclaimed for its world-renowned golf courses and scenic rocky coast. This gated community in the majestic Del Monte Forest is a place of immense physical beauty, with its rugged shoreline, fine beaches, and lush pine and cypress forests. The celebrated 17-Mile Drive winds along the coast and through the forest, offering dramatic views of the exceptional shoreline, perfectly manicured golf courses, and luxurious estates. In addition to being home to 5,000 residents, Pebble Beach also is a high-end resort destination and includes several deluxe resorts, spas, and fine dining restaurants. The most recognizable icon of Pebble Beach is the famed Lone Cypress, which sits atop a rocky outcropping along the rugged coast just off 17-Mile Drive.
There are seven highly acclaimed public and private golf courses in Pebble Beach including Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill, Poppy Hill, the Links at Spanish Bay, and the private Cypress Point. These world-class courses attract golf enthusiasts from all around the globe and host a number of well-known golf tournaments. The 100 th Anniversary U.S. Open was held at Pebble Beach in 2000 and is slated to return in 2010. Originally hosted by Bing Crosby dating back to 1947, the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am is another notorious event that takes place at the end of January each year. This PGA tournament consists of 72 holes of golf at Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill, and Poppy Hill golf courses, and attracts thousands of hardcore golf fans. During this weeklong event, professional golfers team up with amateurs--often celebrities, including Clint Eastwood, Kevin Costner, and Bill Murray--and play for a large pot of money that goes to benefit local charity organizations.
In addition to the several well-known golf tournaments, a number of other events are held throughout Pebble Beach. Concours d'Elegance, a long time favorite of classic automobile enthusiasts, is held at the Lodge each August. This premier automotive event attracts many celebrities, including longtime regular Jay Leno who has entered cars in the past. The Concours is a charitable event that raises money for local non-profit organizations. Several equestrian events are also held at the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center each year, including the Spring Horse Show in April and the Equestrian Classic in July.
